"Shimmy for a Cause" performer info
THANK YOU to all the performers for helping to make a great show!
The "Shimmy for a Cause" show is a
National Cancer Survivors Day (NCSD) event,
and a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society
Relay for Life
More detailed info below (with newer info toward the top):
Performer info June 6, 2012
I'm still processing the event that was Shimmy for a Cause,
but before I got too far back into mundane life,
I wanted to say "Thank you" to all of you for performing and helping to make it possible!
I think it was an excellent show--I was really happy with the quality of all the performances.
It's a bit of a shame we didn't have more regular audience members, but hey, they missed a good show!
One person who was in the audience was Nona Breitenstein,
who's the 2013 event chair (and 2012 assistant chair) for the
ACS Relay for Life of Deerfield Beach (et al.).
This is the main event we were fundraising for.
She had never seen a bellydance show before and was really impressed!
She said it was "a terrific show!"
I also wanted to share the following bits of followup business:
Thank you again for helping create a world with less cancer and more birthdays!
Performer update May 22, 2012
Here is the
planned lineup.
Please check it and make sure there are no issues with where you're placed.
Also, please let me know if you/your group should be listed differently,
because I am starting to
prepare the program.
Let me know right away (before the end of this week)
if there are problems with either of these items.
A couple of odds and ends:
-
We will have someone videoing.
We are expecting to make DVDs available to participants .
If you have an issue with being videoed, let
me know before the event. Please, no other videoing...
-
As a reminder, tickets at the door will be CASH ONLY.
Please advise anyone you know who might be coming of this.
(At this time, I am not sure if we'll be able to take credit cards.
But even if we do, that means less money going to the Cause,
so we'd really prefer not to.)
I think that's all... let me
(Sherezzah at
acbd@beledy.net)
know if you have any questions.
Performer update April 15, 2012
This info sent by email to everyone I had email addresses for...
If you didn't get this info, please make sure I have your email address!
Send to me,
Sherezzah, at
acbd@beledy.net.
-
To help me set up the lineup, please let me know the following by May 4:
-
The style of dance/music you will be doing, and the length.
It would be good if you could tell me the particular piece of music
you are using, so I can help make sure we
have no duplicates...
-
Any
requirements/preferences for where you are placed in the show.
-
To help me set up the programs and intros, please let me know the following by May 18:
The name you prefer to be called by.
-
Any other info I might use to write up an intro.
- Show structure:
Showtime is Sunday, June 3, at 6pm at ArtServe in Ft. Lauderdale.
Doors will open to the public at 5:30.
Performers will be allowed in anytime after 5 (we only have the
hall starting at 5).
Show will be in 3 parts, with 2 intermissions,
so you should be able to watch most of it even if you're performing.
We're not planning to have vendors
there, except for probably wine and water (performers will get water for free, of course).
- Music: Please
bring your music on CD the day of the event.
- Optional: send me a photo (or tell me where to find it on the web)
and/or website URL and I can include it in
the
list of performers
posted here.
- Door prizes:
We will be holding drawings for door prizes during the intermissions,
so if you have anything you could donate for a door prize,
that'd be great!
- Stage:
There is a decent-size stage.
It's 12 feet deep by 17+ feet across with extra triangular sections
on the sides so that at its widest point, it is about 24 feet wide.
It is
made of plywood painted over, pretty sturdy but not flawless :-)
There are 2-step stairs on both sides.
The ceiling is fairly high, with some light fixtures hanging down a bit.
I tried it out and there's plenty of room to swing a cane.
It's possible to hit the light fixtures with the cane,
but you'd have to try pretty hard to do it :-)
So wings should be no problem, if you were planning on those.
- Dressing area:
Last year we had a room we could use as a dressing room, but we won't have it this year.
We are planning to wall off some area with fabric to use as a dressing room,
but space will probably be limited so, it'll probably be best
if we don't have everyone try to be using it at the same time :-)
You'll probably want to have a coverup.
- Tickets:
As a reminder, you'll need performer tickets, which are $15.
(Regular audience tickets are $25.)
You can get them as follows:
-
In person... we'll be at Kahreen and Kira's event at the end of the month (April 28-29),
and Relay for Life of Deerfield Beach, in Quien Waters Park, May 5-6, or
elsewhere by appointment with myself or another of the ACBD team
(I'm generally willing to meet in the Delray Beach area).
-
You can snailmail a check to me (contact me for address and details).
If you want the tickets mailed to you,
enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope
and make sure I get it before May 27.
Otherwise we will hold them at the door.
-
If you want to pay by credit card (for performers only)
you can make a donation of the appropriate amount (or more)
directly to the ACS at
http://main.acsevents.org/goto/acbd and include a note there
to indicate that.
Please note this option is for performer tickets only...
it's too much work for me to administer for the general public.
Tickets will be held at the door.
OK, I think that's everything for now! If you have any questions, please ask.
Original info posted January 26, 2012
This being a National Cancer Survivors Day event,
we are especially interested in performances that
fit in with the theme.
So, we would be particularly interested in performers
who are cancer survivors or who have an interesting personal
cancer-related story, or in
numbers that relate to the NCSD slogan
of "A Celebration of Life".
- Each performer will be required to purchase a performer ticket
($15). This is a fundraiser, after all.
(Donations made via the
Anti-Cancer Belly Dancers Relay for Life team page
can count toward this, assuming they're identifiable to the performer.)
- Because this is a fundraiser for a good cause,
we do ask that performers
please help spread the word,
do some advertising and try to sell tickets,
although we won't be enforcing any specific requirements for this.
- Performances should be no more than about 5 minutes.
(Pretty standard, I think.)
-
If you are interested in performing, please contact Sherezzah at
acbd@beledy.net,
telling us who you are, what music you'll be dancing to, and
why you'd be a good performer for our show.
We'll use the info for intros, programs, and early advertising.
We are hoping to finalize our list of performers by
the end of February.
If you're on Facebook, please remember to
"Like" the
Anti-Cancer Belly Dancers, and invite all your friends
to the
"Shimmy for a Cause" event!
