I continued the Thanksgiving day 2007 nature walk that I had started at Wakodahatchee by heading out to the Green Cay Wetlands. Green Cay is another water reclamation area similar to Wakodahatchee, but larger and fancier--it has a visitor's center and stuff. This was my first time there, and I enjoyed it a lot. On this particular day, there were a lot more birds at Green Cay, although fewer other critters like gators.
This is a limpkin.

Here's a Little Blue Heron on the prowl. I thought it was interesting that you could see bird tracks in the mud under the water all around him (although they don't show up too well in the picture).
This one is a Glossy Ibis.

|
Many of the animals, like this Tricolor Heron, have become used to people being around.
Duck in duckweed.

This was the only gator I saw there this day. A few moments after I shot the second pic (right), he sank like a submarine and totally disappeared from view.

This little grebe was fascinating. He'd preen himself, then hold his wings out like this, then preen himself some more.
I first saw this bedraggled wet anhinga as he was climbing to the top of this slanted palm trunk. Some people who were nearby told me he'd actually climbed over a couple of turtles, pushing them off, on his way up. I would've liked to have seen that.
