Mimi makes more different vocalizations
than any cat I've ever known.
Sure, I've known cats who talked more often, but
that didn't mean they had a larger vocabulary--any more than people
who talk a lot do.
When I first started noticing all her "cat words,"
I was reminded of the Kliban
cartoon at right (from his book cat, of course).
And I thought it would be fun to make a list of all the sounds I heard Mimi make. I did get kind of discouraged in short order, though, mainly because I couldn't figure out how to spell most of them. And lately she's become less talkative. In any case, here's the list I managed to compile thus far:
