Bright blue skies, warm crisp temperatures, and battling World's
Champions mixed with the annually anticipated Finals events
to provide
an enjoyable and competitive show on
November 9-11, 2006.
Chairmen were
Wayne T. Moses, Bonnie Phillips, and Louis J. Labadini, and
manager for the 7th year was Ray Cloninger.
The event raised $50,148.49, most of which was earmarked
for the Florence Fuller Child Development Center.
The Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Center hosted this fantastic show, providing a great venue for showcasing the American Saddlebred and Morgans to large audiences each day and each evening. The Challenge of Champions is now considered the most famous and popular show in the South Florida, and brings in extra revenue to the region. It is also the only rated show in the area. Each evening the Boca Raton High School NJROTC presented colors and everyone sang the national anthem with a fantastic soloist Mary Jane Curtis. Ray Cloninger gave prayers of thanks and for guidance at each opening. The huge crowds witnessed the power, beauty and speed of the magnificent horses. Friday evening "Fishbone Fred" and his trio brought live music to the Italian night Exhibitors Party, which also had chocolate fountains tempting everyone's palate. There were barn parties each night and one special party given by Terri Preiser was a 76th birthday party for "Dr. Wayne." A huge Chinese auction brought in over $2000.00. Then there was a fun fundraiser called "when pigs fly" directed by the very capable ringmaster William Whitley. Two hundred rubber pigs were sold and towards the end of the evening everyone who purchased pigs tossed them into center ring in a hula hoop. The winner, closest to the center of the hoop, received half of the money taken in. |
