("Eye to the Future" is a column published in
each issue of The Humanitarian, the newsletter
for Humanitarian Society members.)
Just one year ago I was up in Nashville, TN working as an Information Technology consultant to the State of Tennessee. Two years ago I was in Houston, TX working as a consultant to the IBM Process and Petroleum Industry Group. This year I am in Ft. Lauderdale, FL working for the IBM Advanced Technologies Group. This goes to show that many of us are mobile in our professional life and in our residencies. Most of us, however, attempt to maintain a home base of some sort, whether it be a physical base (home, property, etc.) or an affiliation base (clubs, organizations, etc.). During my time away I continued to send in my Eye To The Future column and stay in touch with Dr. Wayne and the membership of The Humanitarian Society through e-mail and the Humanitarian Society Web Site. If you haven't yet checked out the Humanitarian Society Web Site, I strongly encourage you to do so. And, for those of you who haven't yet sent in your latest opinion on anything to Dr. Wayne at his e-mail address, I also strongly encourage you to do so. Good communications and staying in touch are the cornerstones of a great organization such as The Humanitarian Society. I fondly recall the early days of Dr. Wayne's beginning on the computer internet when we were at the "this is the keyboard, this is the monitor stage." Now he is a whizbang with the best of them.
So my message to all of us is "stay in touch." Visit the Web Site, send Dr. Wayne a note, attend one of the events, volunteer for a committee, and offer your ideas and thoughts. The vibrancy of any organization is only as good as the vibrancy of its membership. Experience has taught us that the more communications the more the vibrancy. None of us has a monopoly on the "right" ideas. All of us benefit when we exchange our thoughts and ideas. Lets start whizbanging !!!
