July is rapidly coming upon us and before we know it the annual Fourth of July Picnic will be underway. This is one of the most special events held by the Humanitarian Society and it provides a wonderful day of food and fun for needy children. This year's event is even more special because it is being hosted by John and Betsy Van Lennep at their Castletiny Fram in Delray Beach. I have known John and Betsy for more than a decade and they are very thoughtful and generous people. If you have some time free on the Fourth, you should consider volunteering for some of the activities at the picnic. Last year I wandered around picking up stray soccer balls. Had any of you seen my attempt at a kick you would know that I have never played soccer in my life. But the point, simply, is that there is something for eveyone to do and it need not be very skilled or difficult. The day is fun for the volunteers as well as for all the children. As the picnic ends during the afternoon you won't miss any of the fireworks displays in the area that evening. However, you will have a special nice feeling that you have done something very worthwhile this Fourth of July !
