In Memoriam of Nike
We got Nike on June 2, 1982 when she was just 8 weeks old.
(Right is a picture taken shortly after we got her.)
She entertained us, educated us, and loved us for over 18 years.
She passed away December 12, 2000 after having had
chronic renal failure.
A favorite memory of her, I guess because it showed how
smart she was, was that we had had her probably less than a
week before she figured out how to open doors
(she actually put her paws on the doorknob and turned it).
The only thing that kept her from going anywhere she wanted
in the house was that she couldn't reach most of the doorknobs.
Now that she's gone, she leaves us with the memories.
How will we ever make the bed without her?

Here's Bob's eulogy for Nike.
- Here's some of the things other people said about Nike:
- "Charming."
- "She and I had an
understanding... she could rub up against me and I couldn't touch her... it
worked. She always said hi to me when I came over..very sweet cat."
- "Nike,
it seems, still "bellowed" in her ageing years, but she "mellowed" in her
approach to some strangers. Just this Thanksgiving, she allowed some
"foreign relatives" to enter her domain, share her room, not to mention her
Mama, pet her, and yes, even retire for a nap in a "new" lap!"
- "She was a grand old lady!"
- "We will all miss her finger cymbal
accompaniment on Wed nights. I'm sure she is in kitty heaven."
- "She was a sweet kitty."
- "She was a beautiful kitty and a great find."
